The last date of filing your income tax returns is extend to August 5, 2017. In case if you have any income tax dues, it must be deposited as Self Assessment Tax before that. If you paid less than what you should pay, your Income tax returns may be treated as faulty returns as per Section 139(9) and you may be liable to pay penalty.
To avail this facility the taxpayer must have a net-banking account with any of the below authorized banks.
Step 1: Visit the link
Step 2: Select Challan No./ITNS 280
Step 3: For individuals paying tax, select (0021) INCOME-TAX (OTHER THAN COMPANIES).
Step 4: Select the Assessment Year correctly. Choose (300) SELF ASSESSMENT TAX if you are paying taxes after the Financial Year has ended.
Step 5: Enter your CORRECT PAN Card Number and Fill up your Address, email & phone number
Step 6: Select your bank from List of Banks
Step 7: Fill the Captcha code and click Proceed to next screen
Step 8: On the next screen – Check all the details you have filled. On “Submit to Bank” – system will direct you to net-banking facility of your bank. Again double check all your personal info here and also the income tax amount to be paid in the income tax field. Now you will required to enter the amount of tax you intend to pay and select the bank account number from where you be going to to pay the tax. You can leave fields like Surcharge, Education Cess, Interest, Penalty charges and Others blank for now.
Step 9: On successful submission, it will generate a printable acknowledgment indicating the Challan Identification Number with the payment details like Bank details, CIN and payment details.
Important points to remember:
1. In case your bank is not an authorized bank then you can make payment using any other person who has an account with the authorized bank having online facility. However, you must clearly indicate your Permanent Account Number (PAN).
2. You can verify the status of the challan in the “Challan Status Inquiry” at NSDL-TIN website using CIN after a week, after making your payment.
3. You can just quote your Challan Identification Number (CIN) as mentioned in your counterfoil in your tax returns.
