How to Lock your Aadhaar card online to prevent misuse
The Aadhaar card is becoming mandatory across all areas. There are many people who fear about the possibility of misuse of their confidential information linked with Aadhaar.
Now you can temporarily lock and unlock your Aadhaar card to protect your privacy and confidentiality of your biometrics data.
New Aadhaar Biometric locking system enables users to lock their biometrics to restrict against any attempt to misuse.
The process of locking and unlocking your Aadhar card is quite simple and can be completed in few minutes. But, registered Mobile Number is must to use this
service. In case your mobile is not registered with Aadhaar card – visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre to update it.
Step 1: Visit the https://resident.uidai.gov.in/biometric-lock.
Step 2: Under “Lock your Biometrics” section, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar card number with security code displayed on the screen.
Step 3: You will then receive an OTP on your registered mobile phone. This “ONE TIME PASSWORD” is valid for 30 mins.
Step 4: Enter the OTP received on your mobile phone in the repective field and click LOGIN.
Step 5: Once logged in, enter the security code once again and click on ‘Enable’.
Step 6: Now your Aadhar Card Biometrics will be locked.
Once you lock your Aadhaar card, you will not be able to use your biometrics like fingerprint/ iris data for any authentication. You can unlock your Aadhaar card whenever you need but this can only be done online.
To unlock your Aadhaar biometrics, follow the same step as above and login using OTP.
Then click on the tab “unlock” to unlock your Aadhaar by entering the security code available side to it.
