How to check your Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Balance using mobile

EPFO provides various options to check your EPF balance including new UAN website, the Mobile App, missed call and SMS service.  Using your mobile for checking PF is easiest method to check your EPF balance in few minutes.  To use this service, it is mandatory to activate your UAN and register your mobile number with EPFO online. If your organization have their own PF trust, in such cases you cannot check your PF balance using these services – and you need to contact your HR for your PF balance.

Option 1: Missed Call Service by EPFO

First time users can simply give a missed call to 011 2290 1406. Within a few minutes, EPFO will send you an SMS with basic details such as your PF number, name and date of birth.  You can’t check your balance now. To check your PF balance using Missed call service – your employer need to do your KYC on your behalf by submitting either of these documents like Bank account, PAN or Aadhaar number. Employer will also need to digitally sign off your document to EPFO to accept your KYC. Once these KYC is done, every time you give a missed call to 011 2290 1406 – you will get your latest balance of your EPF.


2. EPF balance through SMS service

Checking your EPF balance through SMS service is easiest method to check your EPF balance. Please make sure that your UAN is already activated and also make sure that your mobile number is also registered with your UAN. Once your UAN activated, you have to send SMS to 7738299899. The EPF subscribers can just type the message format as EPFOHO UAN <LAN> from their registered mobile number. The language code <LAN> is compulsory while sending this SMS. Currently, there are 10 languages supported in SMS service, and you need to type first three characters for your desired language (Languages supported are Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, English, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Bengali). Once you send the message, then authority will send you information like member details, last contribution and your total EPF balance. The members are requested not to type 12 digits Universal Account Number they just need to send an SMS “EPFOHO UAN <ENG> from their registered mobile phone number and EPFO system itself identifies the sender’s mobile number and then match with sender’s EPFO record and will dispatch the SMS.


3. Using EPF Mobile App

EPFO recently launched Mobile Android App for their subscribers to check the PF account balance and the employees can also use it for checking TRRN and also to activate UAN through this mobile App. This App can be downloaded from the official EPFO website on your mobile. Once downloaded, you need to fill your UAN details (get the UAN details from your employer and activate it), PF office, employee and employer code to activate this App. Even pensioners can access this App to check their pension disbursement and PPO number.


Dedicated toll free number 1800118005 is assigned for these mobile services, the timing for this helpdesk is from 9:15 AM to 5:45 PM for all your queries related to any UAN service.

    Hi Mohammad,

    i updated my new mobile number in EPFO and if I give a missed call to 011-22901406, I’m getting a message that my mobile no is not registered and I also logged in and checked it is showing my new mobile number but i’m not sure y i’m getting this message

      Karthick, visit the nearest EPFO office to check whether your mobile number is updated or not
      Second option: If you have UAN, then you can easily check this details online

    I have VPF deduction as well in my salary. It shows the balance when given missed call to 011-22901406. Does the total amount shown includes (EPF + VPF). Also, does the balance show the employer contribution as well. Kindly clarify.

      Hi Sonu, the total PF amount includes your employer contribution.

    I have tried to check EPF balance through SMS service
    EPFOHO UAN from my registered mobile phone number but it is replying invalid language code .
    please help.
    Also suggest about NPS plan that which PFM is good.And about the annuity RELATED TO nps after retirement.

      Hi Saurabh,

      You can try alternative way to get your EPF balance by using MISSED CALL SERVICE. Just give a missed call to 01122901406 from your registered mobile number. You will get SMS with your total EPF balance.

    Hi I am not able to register my UAN number. Its shows error like ‘Mismatch in UAN and Member ID.’. Still I have confused about my Member ID. I can see there are three text box. 1. Establishment Code 2. three digit 3. Account number. In my pay slip I found establishment code, PF number and pension number.

    For eg: establishment code : GNGGN0001111
    PF Number : 0000325870
    Pension Number : 312777

    Then How to register my UAN and basically i wants to know my pf balance
